Fitness World

The picture above is the Fitness World. It’s located inside the Vientiane Center Lao on the seventh floor, below the cinema. Actually, it’s a really large gym, but due to the huge amount of equipment and the fact that a lot of people train there, it can be a bit crowded sometimes. The quality and variety of the equipment is great tho, and there are also group lessons for Muay Thai, Yoga, Zumba and other stuff. One of the highlights of the gym is the boxing ring in the middle. None of the other gyms has such a lively boxing scene. If you’re interested in the sport, you’ll definitely find a sparring partner there. Just be cautious who you challenge, there are some serious fighters.

JP Fitness Centre

JP Fitness Centre isn’t that different from Fitness World. It’s a bit cheaper and the variety of machines a little worse, but overall it’s still a great option. What sets it apart from many other gyms is the recreation area that offers entertainment like ping pong and a pool table. Some more advantages are that the gym is air-conditioned, the coaches are friendly, and the equipment, floor and facilities are very clean. A bit of the downside is that in the evening, the gym is almost unusable. It gets even more crowded than Fitness World. The gym is located next to Wat Thongtoum, a small and traditional Lao temple.

Honey Gym

If you don’t want to spend much money, Honey Gym is the gym for you. A day pass costs only 30.000 kip per person. At the current rate, that’s not even one and a half  US dollars. But just because it’s the cheapest option, doesn’t mean it’s low-quality. The gym, close to the Mahosot Hospital, may not have the best-quality equipment and also the variety of machines is a bit limited, but it’s still a decent place for a holiday workout. Not to mention the great view from the upper floors. If you want to save money and meet locals, the Honey Gym is a great choice.

Sengdara Fitness Pro

And last but not least, we have the Sengdara Fitness Pro. There’s not much to criticize here, except the huge price. What you’ll have to pay for a day pass seems to vary depending on the mood of the staff, but you can expect around 550.000 to 600.000 kip. Compared to the other options, that’s a huge amount. Is it justified? Well, since the quality gap isn’t that high, not necessarily. Still, the Sengdara Fitness Pro offers a pretty luxurious workout experience. They have pretty much everything, from a huge variety of high-quality machines to wellness facilities like pools, saunas, and massages, as well as a restaurant with a wide variety of healthy food. If the price doesn‘t matter, you should give it a shot. The gym is just a short walk away from the Patuxai Victory Monument.
