The best viewpoints in Vang Vieng
It’s very hard to say what viewpoint in Vang Vieng is the best, since there are several and all of them have their unique features. What one is best suited for you, depends on your personal preferences. For example: There might be a very beautiful viewpoint with an astonishing view, but if the trails are above your fitness level, it’s not a good choice. Our three favorites are the Nam Xay Viewpoint, Pha Ngern Viewpoint, and Pha Phoak Viewpoint.
Nam Xay Viewpoint
In our opinion, the Pha Ngern Viewpoint has more to offer than the Nam Xay Viewpoint, but in terms of popularity, this one is more popular. The reason for it is the instagrammable spot on the top, that features a motorcycle. Even we have some pictures of that place, we decided not to share them and ruin the surprise. From all the viewpoints in Vang Vieng, this one is one of the easiest. Even if you’re not well prepared, you’ll manage the hike. In fact, you can reach the top in less than 30 minutes. Since the distance isn’t far, you can easily combine your visit to Nam Xay Viewpoint with the famous Blue Lagoon 1. Just keep in mind that it’s one of the most crowded among the lagoons.
Pha Ngern Viewpoint
If you’re in for a challenge and want an intense hiking experience, go for the Pha Ngern Viewpoint. The Pha Ngern Viewpoint, also known as Silver Cliff Viewpoint, is significantly harder than the Nam Xay Viewpoint and many others in Vang Vieng. How hard it‘s going to be, depends on your fitness level and determination. There are two distinct viewpoints: Reaching the first one is already a challenge, but reaching the second one is way harder. We saw many fit people struggling or not even trying it. Reaching the top can take up to two hours. The distance between the first Pha Ngern and second Pha Ngern viewpoint is basically the same. Prepare to climb old ladders, sharp rocks and navigate steep paths. As with many viewpoints there are other sights nearby. One of them is the Tham Poukham Cave. If you plan going there, don’t forget to rent a headlamp for your safety.
Pha Phoak Viewpoint
One of the main advantages of the Pha Phoak Viewpoint is that, unlike the other viewpoints in Vang Vieng, itβs within walking distance. You can even see it from most parts of the town. If you decide to hike up to the Pha Phoak Viewpoint, be prepared for bamboo staircases, steep inclines, and sharp rocks. Overall, the hike to the top isn’t too difficult, but you should still be prepared. You’ll need at least half an hour to reach the summit. As soon as you do, you’ll be rewarded. From one side you can see the town of Vang Vieng, from the other side huge limestone rocks.

The mosquitos are not just annoying, but can also transmit dangerous diseases like malaria.

The difficulty of the hikes in Vang Vieng varies greatly, but in general, the very touristic ones are easier.
